In yet another sign that Research In Motion Ltd. (RIMM) is years behind its biggest competitors in the consumer arena, the BlackBerry maker has finally turned its App World into an online storefront.
BlackBerry users can now purchase and download apps on a PC and install them on their smart phones. The new storefront also enables users to edit their My World accounts and sync app downloads directly to their BlackBerry, read and write reviews, and access their previously purchased apps from a computer.
RIM has been well behind Apple Inc. (AAPL) in particular on the app and content front. It didn’t launch App World until Apple’s App Store had already hit full stride and it still lags considerably behind even with its new extension to an online format.
For example, when the company launched App World 2.0 in August, RCR Wireless News noted that there were relatively few changes.
