IBM and Mendix announce global reseller agreement
IBM and Mendix are joining forces in a global reseller agreement in an effort to bring cloud technologies to low-code environments. Under the deal, IBM will resell and support the Mendix platform on IBM Cloud.
Low-code refers to a way to create software with a modicum of code. Mendix, for instance, leverages visual development tools to develop apps without writing any code. By bringing Mendix onto its platform, IBM aims to tap into a portion of the developer community that does not have access to its cloud services.
IBM will combine its Mendix’s low-code development platform with IBM’s Watson IoT and AI services on IBM Cloud. These integrations are intended to help boost the speed and flexibility of development tools and cloud services. According to Mendix, customers can deliver applications 10 times faster using its platform on IBM Cloud.
“The collaboration between IBM and Mendix will combine the ease of Mendix’s low-code environment with the advanced services available on IBM Cloud, including AI, blockchain, data analytics, mobile and Internet of things (IoT) services,” said Don Boulia, general manager of Cloud Developer Services, IBM. “This significantly accelerates the speed at which developers from all backgrounds, from highly skilled coders to business users expanding their roles, are positioned to build and deploy cloud-native applications.”
The deal follows a previous agreement between the companies in 2016 where Mendix was made available on IBM’s cloud platform Bluemix. The purpose of the collaboration, according to the companies, was to help accelerate the delivery of Smart Apps among enterprises.

Businesses across all industries are finding new ways to innovate, and today’s leaders are putting low-code development at the core of their digital strategy,” said Derek Roos, CEO of Mendix. “Our partnership with IBM can enable enterprises to accelerate the speed at which developers from all backgrounds can build and deploy applications.”
The deal was announced the same week IBM and Salesforce noted they are expanding their partnership by merging IBM Cloud and Watson services with Salesforce Quip and Salesforce Service Cloud Einstein. The companies report the combined platforms will introduce new AI-based recommendations for next best actions.
