Cloud-based 5G end-to-end network slicing demo hosted at DT’s lab in Bonn, Germany.
Huawei and Deutsche Telekom said they are currently carrying out a demonstration of cloud-based “5G” end-to-end network slicing, which includes radio access, transport and core network elements. The demo is taking place at DT’s 5G lab in Bonn, Germany.
Huawei explained the technology will be required to support new applications like virtual reality, augmented reality and connected vehicles.
“Network Slicing is the most important innovation for 5G,” explained DT CTO Bruno Jacobfeuerborn, in a statement. “In this demonstration we realized an E2E network slicing including RAN, transport, core network and also massive [multiple-input/multiple-output antenna technology] C-band for high throughput, physical isolation and ultra-low latency mobile edge computing technology. We show that these 5G capabilities can be provided as on-demand network services for diverging use cases in the near future.”
Huawei, Vodafone carry out connected car demo in Barcelona
Huawei and Vodafone said they carried out a connected vehicle demonstration during this week’s Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, Spain. German carmaker Audi provided support for the demonstration, which used cellular vehicle-to-x technology.
Huawei said the technology enables a rapid exchange of information between vehicles, other road users and infrastructure, which can improve vehicle safety, traffic management and road efficiency.
“C-V2X will be a core component for connected and autonomous vehicles as it enables better anticipation and negotiation of road risks,” said Luke Ibbetson, head of research and development and technology strategy at Vodafone. “This is an example of how Vodafone is evolving our fast and reliable 4G networks on the road to 5G.”
