Sprint is aggressively rolling out service upgrades and promotions
As part of a spate of new Sprint promotions, the No. 4 U.S. carrier announced an expansion of its international roaming service, called Open World, to include several new locations.
Open World was initially rolled out in August. At that time the service included various roaming services in 34 countries, with the biggest hook being free access to 1 gigabyte of 3G data for customers traveling in Mexico, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Paraguay. Those customers also receive unlimited voice calling and text messaging in those countries. After the 1 GB of 3G data is used, customers can purchase additional gigabytes for $30, which is billed in kilobyte increments.
The new locations covered by Open World are Peru, Guam, the Northern Marianas and Saipan.
Sprint is also providing free voice calls and text messages from its network in the U.S. to Canada and Mexico, with rates beginning at 5 cents per minute to the other Latin America locations.
For customers roaming into the remaining countries, they will have access to free text messaging, voice calls billed at 20 cents per minute and can purchase 3G data access at $30 per GB. Those countries include Australia, the Canary Islands, Denmark, England, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Palestinian Territories, Russia, San Marino, Scotland, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Vatican City and Wales.
In September, Sprint added 33 countries to the Open World list: France, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Bonaire, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Curacao, Dominica, Fiji, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Martinique, Montserrat, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Seychelles, Saint Barthélemy, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent & The Grenadines, Suriname, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands and Vanuatu.
“At Sprint, we know that our customers want to be able to travel the world and stay connected with family and friends without the worry of overage charges,” the carrier noted. “That is why we continue to add more countries to Sprint Open World and Sprint Global Roaming. With the addition of Peru, Guam, Northern Marianas and Saipan we now cover 76 destinations around the world.”
