Mobile news: 5 things you need to know today
1. Samsung is launching new products today. The world’s largest smartphone maker is introducing a new version of the Galaxy S6 Edge, as well as a new Note 5.
2. Samsung rivals HTC and Lenovo are both cutting thousands of jobs as the Chinese economy slows down. Lenovo bought Motorola Mobility less than a year ago and said many of the job cuts will be related to integrating Motorola Mobility.
3. Qualcomm said its newest mobile processors will come to smartphones during the first half of 2016. The Snapdragon 820 features a 40% increase in graphics processing and a 40% decrease in power consumption.
4. Softbank has renewed its commitment to Sprint with an additional $87 million investment. The Japanese carrier invested $21.6 billion in Sprint two years ago. Now Softbank owns roughly 80% of Sprint. RCR‘s Dan Meyer has that story for you on RCR Wireless News.
5. Twitter is taking the limits off private chat. The social media giant said there will be no character limit on messages sent using its private chat feature. The company said it will begin rolling out the feature today on Android and iOS apps, on twitter.com, TweetDeck and Twitter for Mac. Users who want to take advantage of the feature as soon as possible need the latest version of the Twitter app for their smartphone operating system.
