Nokia radio access equipment covered by 7-year agreement
Russian carrier MegaFon will expand its LTE footprint through a 7-year deal with Nokia Networks, which will provide the mobile network operator with radio access equipment.
Nokia and MegaFon announced the agreement on March 11. MegaFon subscribers in the Moscow, Central and Caucasus regions will benefit from the network upgrade first.
Specifically, Nokia will provide MegaFon with its Single RAN Advanced platform, which is based on the Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station.
Nokia will also put in place its NetAct network management system, which provides network configuration, monitoring, management and optimization functionality.
MegaFon Director for Infrastructure Evgueny Chermashentsev said the deal is “reaffirmation of MegaFon’s commitment to deliver best-in-class services and fastest mobile Internet to our subscribers.”
“We are confident that Nokia Networks will help us to make our 4G network even faster and to enhance network availability and quality,” Chermashentsev said.
Kristina Tikhonova, Nokia’s head of the East Region, said the agreement will “ensure that MegaFon is able to turn its vision into reality. As always, we will leverage our capabilities and expertise to help MegaFon to step up to the next level of mobile broadband and offer superior services to the Russian citizens.”
MegaFon launched the first commercial 3G network in Russia and, in July 2012, received a government-issued license to deploy LTE.
