Software is becoming an increasingly important part of telecommunication networks and deployments as both wired and wireless carriers look to add functionality to operations while increasing simplicity and reducing costs. RCR Wireless News is keeping an eye on recent developments through its weekly “Software” wrap up.
Swiss-based telecom operator Naka Mobile partnered with Cisco Systems to deploy a virtualized evolved packet core. The platform will power Naka’s service offering that targets mobile operators, mobile virtual network operators and distribution partners.
Cisco explained that the deployment was the first announced by a mobile operator.
— Hewlett-Packard announced an “on-premise” software testing solution targeting mobile application developers. The solution is designed to allow for “real-world” testing of mobile applications in a controlled environment.
The Mobile Center offering is said to be able to simulate conditions across any device or operating system.
— Gigamon said it is set to unveil a set of services allowing “active visibility for high-volume traffic in both scale-out and scale-up architectures for next-generation business infrastructures.” The platform targets the growing use of virtualized platforms at data centers.
— Ericsson reported that New Zealand telecom operator Spark New Zealand has deployed its Service Agility Suite to re-engineer its IT platforms in a move to allow the telecom to more rapidly rollout services. The operating support system platform includes inventory management, product catalogue and order management systems targeting prepaid mobile services.
— Ericsson also announced a partnership with TIBCo Software to use TIBCo middleware in Ericsson’s OSS/BSS software and consulting and system integration services. The TIBCo middleware is expected to provide services in the areas of charging, billing, order management, product catalog, customer relationship management and customer experience management.
— Aquto, which provides sponsored data monetization services, reported its first European deployment with Vodafone Portugal. Aquto claims its cloud-based service allows operators to target both consumers with data plans as well as the more than half of all smartphone users it claims do not have monthly plans.
— Cloud computing company Nexmo released its Verify service that is designed to improve acquisition and retention efforts for telecom operators and over-the-top players through phone number verification.
— Virtual local phone number provider Voxbone announced a partnership with cloud voice platform provider Alianza to offer an integrated solution allowing service providers to combine their offerings into a single deployment. The platform will include Voxbone’s VoxDID service that it said will allow Alianza’s service providers to order, manage and provision telephone numbers from over 50 countries.
— Mavenir Systems unveiled its IMS-PBX solution that it claims allows telecom service providers to leverage their IP multimedia subsystem-based networks to offer business services to the small to medium business market. The platform, which is expected to be “generally available” by the middle of next year integrates voice, video, presence/IM, messaging, and voice and video conferencing across multiple devices.
