—In a move that shows the increasing importance of big data analytics capabilities in network testing and reporting, Anite announced the acquisition of data analysis and post-processing company Xceed Technologies, which will be integrated into its network testing business unit. Anite will pay $30 million in cash plus up to $5 million related to performance targets.
Xceed is based in the U.S. near Washington, D.C., which will augment U.K.-based Anite’s presence in the Americas and give Xceed an expanded international market. Xceed reported $11.8 million in revenue for its 2013 fiscal year. Its products, including its WindCatcher desktop application and Xynergy analytics platform, take network performance data feeds from multiple sources, including Anite’s drive test tools, and provide analysis and reporting on optimizing network performance.
Anite said that the purchase “will allow [its] network testing business to transform its position in the data mining and post-analysis market” and is in line with its overall strategy. The company added that it already sees strong demand from customers for data analytics and software-as-a-service.

—NI has launched a high-performance 26.5 GHz microwave vector signal analyzer that it says has the industry’s widest bandwidth, aimed at allowing engineers to capture signals including LTE-Advanced, 802.11ac waveforms and radar pulses. NI also introduced a fast-tuning 20 GHz continuous wave signal generator; both instruments expand the company’s PXI platform.
—Ascom Network Testing has added support for iPhones running iOS 8 to its widely used TEMS Investigation for drive testing.
—Ixia has a new app for Splunk Enterprise, which gives IT departments the ability to use deep packet inspection (DPI) to analyze and visually assess user, device and application behaviors and metadata, and use the data to optimize network security as well as performance. The integration means that the IxFlow App for Splunk Enterprise integrates Ixia’s Application and Threat Intelligence (ATI) Processor to provide a pre-packaged solution.
—Rohde & Schwarz has added a triggering and decoding option for USB 1.0/1.1 and 2.0 for integrating USB interfaces for its RTO oscilloscope.
The company is also currently running a deal of up to 40% savings on a bundle for its low-cost Hameg oscilloscope, “just in time for the holiday season.” Sounds like a stocking-stuffer for the engineer who has everything!
