InterDigital Inc. demonstrated a wireless machine-to-machine communications prototype as an adjunct to a meeting of ETSI earlier this month in Philadephia. The company demonstrated a working prototype of an end-to-end architecture that interconnects cellular and non-cellular networks seamlessly, using the cellular network to remotely manage and control both cellular and non-cellular M2M devices.
ClearWire Corp. and Japan’s UQ Communications forged a 4G roaming agreement that allows customers of both companies to use Intel WiMAX-embedded netbooks and notebooks to use unlimited data while travelling in the covered markets in each country.
Huawei said it showcased a 700 Mbps DSL prototype in Hong Kong. The company said the prototype is the first of its kind. The product will allow operators to build high-bandwidth broadband access networks with SuperMIMO technology.

Cinterion, which provides cellular machine-to-machine communication modules, said its EU3 module is available for mass production. The module includes two versions, the EU3-E and EU3-P, and offers high-speed data communications for both 2G and 3G networks in European and Asia-Pacific markets.

Verizon Wireless announced Mobile Recovery, a Web-based and phone-based application that can help customers if they lose their phone. The application, from Asurion is offered at no additional charge as part of Verizon’s Total Equipment Coverage program and allows customers to remotely lock the device, sound an alarm and wipe contacts from the phone.
