ROK picks up majority share of Geniem

ROK Entertainment Group said it acquired a 51% stake in the Finnish mobile software developer Geniem for an undisclosed sum.
Geniem develops on-device portals, white-label social networking applications and Bluetooth marketing services for partners including Nokia Corp., Volvo, Pepsi and Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications. ROK, which last month called off an attempt to buy the proposed MVNO Xero Mobile Inc., provides live and on-demand video and other content to mobile users around the world.
ROK hopes to leverage Geniem’s ODP technology — the company boasts 15 million such installations — with ROK’s global footprint and distribution channels.
“This acquisition marks another milestone in the development of ROK, as it augments our existing mobile products portfolio by placing us in the forefront of on-device portals, Bluetooth technologies and social media via mobile and Web applications,” said ROK CEO Laurence Alexander.
