NEW DELHI, India-Hughes Software Systems (HSS), a subsidiary of Hughes Electronics Corporation based in India, announced an outsourcing relationship with Lucent Technologies.
Under the agreement, Lucent Technologies will outsource the software development and maintenance support for selected GSM wireless products, and HSS will set up a dedicated development facility in Nuremberg, Germany, and expand its existing operations in Bangalore, India.
The deal is being seen by HSS as an acquisition of Lucent’s wireless software business. Recently, Ericsson sold its software business to another Indian company, Wipro.
“We chose HSS after a global search for outsourcing partners and found HSS to be the best partner for our GSM wireless business,” said Roger Levy, vice president, GSM research and development, Lucent Technologies.
