SAN DIEGO-Qualcomm Inc. said it will partner with Access Co. Ltd. to make the Japanese mobile content delivery firm’s i-mode Global Profile offering available on select W-CDMA MSM chipsets from Qualcomm.
The two companies will work together to optimize and port Global Profile to handsets, and the i-mode offering will be built entirely on Qualcomm’s Open BREWapi software. The partnership will provide device manufacturers with accelerated entry into the global i-mode market and will ensure a wide variety of next-generation devices for i-mode operators, the firms said.
“This solution significantly streamlines development requirements for device manufacturers to greatly expand the worldwide availability of i-mode-based W-CDMA handset models,” said Luis Pineda, senior voice president of marketing and product management for Qualcomm CDMA Technologies.
