Rohde & Schwarz, along with broadcaster Levira, supported a major government exercise in Estonia focused on training and testing of the country’s nationwide emergency response capabilities, which included the first test of 5G Broadcast for emergency alerts to smartphones.
The large-scale evacuation test exercise, CREVEZ 2023, was held on Sept. 28. 5G Broadcast was used in combination with other methods of reaching the public, including text alarms, television and radio broadcasts.

–Viavi Solutions launched its new NITRO Wireless portfolio of solutions, spanning the testing of private networks, network security, RAN intelligence including RAN Intelligent Controller testing, military communications and the use of digital twins. 5G, the company says is “reaching a tipping point in terms of buildout and capabilities,” and additional complications from the increasing maturity of the ecosystem includes factors such as large-scale private networks, open networking in multi-vendor environments and AI/ML assisting in automation of network operations. “The resulting challenges of network performance, quality of service (QoS), security and energy consumption now need to be mitigated and simplified,” Viavi said in a release.
The company will showcase NITRO Wireless at upcoming global events including Futurecom, FYUZ, Network X and India Mobile Congress.
–Keysight Technologies debuted a new over-the-air control and calibration solution for phased-array antennas, focused on enabling satellite designers who are developing active electronically scanned arrays for communications applications to rapidly test their designs during early validation.
–Anritsu has added a new uplink measurement option, including configuration information for common frame slot formats, to its Field Master spectrum analyzer, to address the need for finding and addressing interference associated with the TDD uplink due to new, midband spectrum being deployed for 5G and LTE.
–Teledyne LeCroy has introduced a new comprehensive test solution for MIPI interfaces, which supports designs using the MIPI Camera Serial Interface 2 (CSI-2) and Display Serial Interface 2 (DSI-2) at either C-PHY rates up to 6.0Gb/s or D-PHY at rates up to 9.0Gb/s. The Envision X14 Protocol Analyzer and Generator helps test performance and troubleshooting for connections of displays, cameras or image sensors in devices such as smartphones, tablets, connected cars or AR/VR headsets, the company said.
-The Federal Communications Commission confirmed this week that Dish Wireless has met its required milestone to offer 5G service to 70% of the United States population, across its various spectrum bands. One outstanding item: A drive-testing campaign that will assess whether Dish’s network meets the required speed minimum of 35 Mbps. Dish has six months to conduct that testing and report the results.
