Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced a $100 million investment to develop a center to help enterprises use generative AI, the technology behind OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot. The decision puts the company in a better position against rivals Microsoft and Google, both of which moved quickly in the area of generative AI, with the former having spent billions on a multilayered alliance with OpenAI and the latter having already deployed in-house AI tools.
“Now, customers around the globe are hungry for guidance about how to get started quickly and securely with generative AI,” said Matt Garman, senior vice president of Sales, Marketing, and Global Services at AWS. “The Generative AI Innovation Center is part of our goal to help every organization leverage AI by providing flexible and cost-effective generative AI services for the enterprise, alongside our team of generative AI experts to take advantage of all this new technology has to offer.”
The AI innovation center will offer generative AI testing and training services and will be staffed by data scientists, engineers and solutions architects. According to AWS, the center is already working with several companies including Highspot, Twilio, RyanAir and Lonely Planet. CNBC reported that AWS described the initiative as a “program” rather than a physical center.
“Customers will work closely with generative AI experts from AWS and the AWS Partner Network to select the right models, define paths to navigate technical or business challenges, develop proofs of concepts, and make plans for launching solutions at scale,” the company said in a press release.
