Mavenir said its FWA solution can be deployed on public, hybrid and private clouds

Mavenir announced the availability of its new Fixed Wireless Access solution (FWA), which combines its open virtualized RAN, converged packet core and OpenBeam portfolio of radio units.

The firm said that this offering provides a competitive solution in a low-footprint deployment that leverages public and private cloud infrastructure. Mavenir also said its FWA solution delivers high throughput, differentiated QoS control, geo-restriction, home-zoning, differentiated charging, advanced power savings, among other features

Mavenir highlighted its FWA solution supports 4G, 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) and 5G Standalone (SA) deployments, as well as massive MIMO radio technology and 5G millimeter wave frequency bands to enable gigabit downlink speeds to multiple users in the same coverage area.

Mavenir’s FWA solution can be deployed on any cloud (public, hybrid and private), the firm added.

“5G and Open RAN transform the Fixed Wireless Access space to make it easier and more feasible to connect the unconnected and foster much needed competition”, said BG Kumar, president of access networks and platforms at Mavenir. “The combination of Mavenir’s converged packet core and Open Virtualized RAN solutions, with the OpenBeam broad portfolio of radios enables mobile operators to position themselves as an affordable and reliable alternative to cable and fiber deployments in rural, suburban and even urban settings”.

Mavenir said that its FWA solution has been deployed by several customers, including 360 Communications, RINA Wireless and Triangle Communications in the United States as well as Quickline in the United Kingdom.

In related news, Mavenir and SOLiD announced global interoperability testing of Open RAN radios and distributed antenna system (DAS) in-building technology.

The two companies said that the interoperability of Mavenir and SOLiD solutions will help network operators, neutral hosts and system integrators to reduce space and power requirements for faster in-building coverage deployments.

This interoperability testing was performed according to O-RAN Alliance specifications using SOLiD’s latest neutral host DAS solution, demonstrating end-to-end configuration with 5G user devices, the two companies said.

“Mavenir positions an Open RAN, cloud-native network approach to disrupt the status quo, allowing businesses and consumers alike to unlock the value of 5G,” said Sachin Karkala, SVP and general manager for RAN at Mavenir. “By demonstrating the performance of our Open vRAN DU and CU radio interfaces working in concert with the SOLiD DAS platform, we are advancing the real-world application of O-RAN technology for improved speed, scalability, and agility,” Karkala added.

“As a global leader in open, interoperable technology delivery, SOLiD is blazing the trail toward a robust Open RAN ecosystem that fosters end-to-end performance and value,” said Dae-Young Kim, Ph.D., EVP at SOLiD. “The validation of SOLiD’s neutral host DAS RF interface unit smoothly interoperating with Mavenir’s O-RAN-compliant solution represents true openness, paving the way for improved end-to-end network solutions that deliver a truly seamless 5G experience everywhere.”
