Comba noted that this deployment with China Mobile involved 20,000 small cell base stations
Hong Kong-based wireless infrastructure provider Comba Network, which is a subsidiary of Comba Telecom, said it was recently selected by China Mobile to contribute to the rollout of a large deployments of 5G extended picocells.
Comba said in a release that this deployment involved 20,000 small cell base stations. The firm also said it had secured two bid packages in this contract with China Mobile, including single-mode extended picocell and dual-mode extended picocell. The corresponding shares of the two packages won by Comba are 23.91% and 18.85% respectively.
“In the 5G era, the coexistence of macro cells and small cells becomes the mainstream for modern network rollout. As the new generation of cost-effective wireless coverage solution, the 5G extended picocell supports 5G single-mode and 4G+5G dual-mode configurations. Dedicatedly designed for complex indoor scenarios, it allows greater flexibility and efficiency for various medium and large-scale indoor radio networks that require medium to high-capacity, such as shopping malls, hotels, office buildings, schools, and hospitals,” Comba said.

In the future, Comba Network will continue to reinforce its leading position in the small cell market, while striving to deliver high-value solutions and services in developing 5G networks for the customers,” the firm added.
In February 2021, Comba had released the private network platform FLeX5, a solution for 5G verticals, including smart mining, smart factory, smart education, and smart healthcare.
China Mobile, the world’s largest operator in terms subscribers, recently said it invested a total of CNY58.7 billion ($8.7 billion) in the 5G segment in the first half of the year.
The carrier said it had put in use a cumulative of one million 5G base stations, including 300,000 700 MHz 5G base stations, which together served 263 million 5G network customers and more than 4,400 5G dedicated network projects
The telco’s overall mobile subscriber base increased 2.6% to 970 million, while the number of 5G subscribers totaled 263 million at the end of June, up 106.7% year-on-year.
China Mobile also said that it continued to promote the co-construction and sharing of its 5G network with China Broadcasting Network Corporation using spectrum in the 700 MHz band.
