Korean carrier LG Uplus has selected Canadian firm iBwave Solutions? software solution to complete what it claims to be Asia’s?first 5G stadium design, the latter said in a release.

LG Uplus and iBwave have been working together for the last year in this project, the Canadian company said. With the support of iBwave’s 5G Design Enterprise Solution, LG Uplus improved their design quality and reduced the cost and time to complete in-building wireless designs.

iBwave CEO?Claude Echahamian said: ?LG Uplus is perfectly positioned to lead the way to a 5G connected future. This is the next evolution in wireless technology, and we’re excited to help set a ground-breaking precedent for seamless 5G integration.”

iBwave uses 3D modeling, coverage, interference and throughput engines, as well as visualization of key performance indicators, to provide an accurate design for venues of all sizes, the company said.

IBwave?s Design Enterprise Solution provides design for every detail of the customer?s in-building wireless networks using the firm?s database of over 29,000 components for all wireless technologies.

The solution includes:

-LTE, LTE Advanced, LTE LAA, CBRS, IoT, LoRa support

-Database of more than 29,000 network components

-Detailed network diagrams with automated link budget calculations

-Coax, CAT5 or Fiber cabling backhaul modeling

-Automated AP/SC placement and optimal antenna placement

-Customizable equipment cost and list of approved parts

-Network validation and error checking

“When it was time to choose the software solution to help design a 5G network, iBwave was the obvious choice. Their vast experience in the industry, combined with their innovative software made them the perfect partner for LG Uplus,” said?Daehyun Kwon, a specialist from LG U+ NW Development Group.

In 2019, the partnership between iBwave and LG Uplus will continue expand with plans to introduce iBwave’s Unity and Mobile Note solutions to their indoor wireless design ecosystem.

“With 5G on the horizon, it’s important that we begin designing the infrastructure today so that it will be ready to meet tomorrow’s growing demand for high speed wireless access,” Kwon added.

LG Uplus launched commercial 5G services in Korea in April this year. The carrier aims to deploy a total of 25,000 5G base stations by June to reach a total of 50,000 base stations nationwide, according to previous press reports.

The country?s third-largest mobile operator is aiming for a deployment total of 80,000 5G base stations across the country by the end of 2019, in order to to cover 90% of the population with 5G technology.

LG Uplus said it will expand its coverage to Busan, Incheon, Daegu, Gwangju, Daejeon and Ulsan by June and to 85 cities by the end of this year.

For Seoul and its surrounding areas where the carrier already installed more than 10,000 5G base stations, LG Uplus will install another 7,800 networks to beef up its 5G service in highly populated areas such as apartment complexes and commercial districts.

Also, the company has applied multiplexer technology to build a 5G infrastructure using the existing wireless network for LTE in order to cut installation time. It also contracted with an increased number of infrastructure firms to boost the installation of 5G base stations.
