IoT location tracking
102

The proliferation of low-cost IoT devices is enabling businesses to achieve massive operations and financial efficiencies through remote asset and location tracking in a both industrial IoT and consumer experiences.

Now, a new cellular-based IoT location solution developed by Polte is enabling businesses to leverage cellular networks to offer ubiquitous and seamless indoor and outdoor location tracking.

The solution?s combination of a cellular-based network and extremely low-cost IoT sensors aims to completely transform the IoT marketplace offering an alternative to existing solutions like GPS and Wi-Fi.

?We are creating a whole new generation of location capability, IoT devices and spaces in wide area wherever they may be indoor or outdoors. The only solutions available today GPS and W-iFi are very expensive. Indoor and outdoor location capability using 4G and 5G signals get rid of other chipsets by using the power of the cloud offering lowest cost services possible,? said?Ed Chao, CEO of Polte

Polte last week announced that its C-LoC software will now be embedded on Sequans Monarch LTE platform, creating a low-cost, low-power LTE IoT location solution that does not require GPS or other radios for accurate indoor and outdoor positioning.

Cellular-based IoT vs Wi-Fi and GPS

Having location knowledge of business assets can have a dramatic impact on operational efficiency and customer experience. In recent years both GPS and Wi-Fi have been used together to provide asset and location tracking services.

While these technologies are capable of providing a relatively good experience, they come with limitations which are costly and cumbersome.

Compared with the cellular IoT solution developed by Polte, GPS for outdoor location tracking is more expensive, lacks accuracy and often drains batteries in IoT devices and WiFi which performs well indoors only offers limited privacy and the increased threat of cyber attacks.

Polte’s cellular-based solution enables manufacturers to eliminate costs of deploying location-based services while maintaining seamless tracking systems.

Use cases for cellular IoT location services

A multitude of the use cases for high-value asset tracking and enterprise applications are now available through Polte?s cellular-based IoT solution, which optimizes decision making across both industrial and consumer value chains through a variety of applications.

The ability to get a product from the manufacturer to the end user requires multiple steps. Using location sensors manufacturers can now determine exactly when a product will reach its next destination whether it’s an assembly line or warehouse and enables manufacturers to plan more efficiently.

In the construction industry, one of the primary pain points is the ability to locate tools required on site to complete projects on time. With multiple campuses and sites being able to track where your tools are and workers can significantly reduce operational costs.

When it comes to public safety minutes even seconds can save lives and location information is becoming an important solution for achieving successful outcomes in mission-critical?life-threatening situations. Whether its a flood, earthquake, school or building the ability to identify the real-time location of occupants during disasters is paramount to the rescue efforts of first responders and emergency personnel.

In retail, knowing where your inventory is can enhance better customer services, experience. Polte?s system can track the exact location of deliveries and packages to increase visibility and flow analytics of an entire distribution chain.

The revenue loss from lost and stolen packages is the number one sunk cost for e-commerce providers like Amazon. ?Polte?s sensors and location tracking solution go beyond confirming whether a package has arrived at its designation location and can also detect whether it was misdelivered or actually stolen.
