Nevada-based NV Energy has upgraded its demand response management system for improved load management capabilities and enhanced cybersecurity.
Smart-city tech provider has handled the software in the modernisation project, which migrated the Nevada utility from its legacy Comverge load management system to its own cloud-based solution.
Iron said its IntelliSOURCE Express system brings two-way communications and greater compatibility with smart devices. It also enables integration of other distributed energy resources, and features higher-grade cyber-security.
Itron described it as a “robust software platform” with “state-of-the-art cybersecurity protections” for the software and devices it controls for the Nevada utility, which provides energy services to 1.3 million customers and more than 40 million tourists visiting the state each year.
NV Energy will have greater control of supply and demand as it manages its agricultural demand response, designed to ensure a stable grid and energy supply.
Steve Hambric, vice president of distributed energy management at Itron, commented: “[NV Energy has] an extensible solution that enables them to incorporate two-way communications to devices, bring your own thermostat customer programmes ,and integration of other distributed energy resources.”
Itron is on track to integrate with the Silver Spring Networks, which it acquired in January.
“We’re very pleased with the continued smooth progress on the Silver Spring Networks’ integration. Our [research and development] and product management teams are actively collaborating on product roadmaps,” said the company’s president and chief Philip Mezey.
“The integration of the sales team is well underway and cross-selling opportunities from our converged portfolio of solutions are adding to our pipeline. The financial results for the Networks business in the first half of the year were better than the expectations we had for the acquisition, and we are ahead of plan for projected synergies.”
