Tech Mahindra, VMware partner to accelerate network transformation

Tech Mahindra and VMware combine solutions

Tech Mahindra and VMware recently announced a collaboration aimed at communication service providers (CSPs), which will focus on developing, marketing and deploying solutions that accelerate network transformation.

CSPs have been gradually virtualizing their networks in preparation for 5G and an onslaught of web-connected devices. These developing technologies require high performance and low latency. Under the partnership, VMware’s 5G and OpenStack-ready network functions virtualization (NFV) platform will be combined with Tech Mahindra’s Network Services.

“This strategic partnership brings together Tech Mahindra’s Digital Transformation expertise and VMware’s innovative Cloud computing and network virtualization portfolio to address emerging technology areas such as 5G, Internet of Things (IoT) and rich multimedia,” said Manish Vyas, president of communications business at Tech Mahindra, in a statement.

According to the companies, the integration of these solutions will fasten new service delivery, open new market opportunities, and improve IT and business economics. Software-defined and distributed datacenter architecture serve as the basis of the solutions, which are touted for their ability to reduce the cost of network infrastructure. Tech Mahindra said it would work with VMware to enable IoT solutions on the VMware vCloud NFV platform, helping CSPs extend IoT services to health service providers, manufacturing companies and others.

“By building on our robust and agile Network Functions Virtualization infrastructure, VMware and Tech Mahindra will equip service providers to deliver innovative and secure hybrid cloud and IoT solutions, creating new revenue streams while, driving down costs and improving overall customer satisfaction,” said Shekar Ayyar, executive vice president and general manager, Telco Group at VMware.

This isn’t the only partnership Tech Mahindra has announced recently. Last month, for example, the company noted it was partnering with Israeli firm ContextSpace Solutions to build the world’s first global software privacy ecosystem. News of the collaboration resulted in Tech Mahindra’s shares increasing over 3% to its 52-week high in morning trading.
