Fixed wireless access: The first phase of 5G
Moderator Dan Meyer, Editor-in-Chief at RCR Wireless News is joined by Boris Maysel, Director Business Development, Siklu Communication; Farooq Khan, CEO, PHAZR, Inc and Berge Ayvazian, Wireless 2020 to discuss fixed wireless access the the initial development phase of 5G technology.
Dan Meyer started at RCR Wireless News in 1999 covering wireless carriers and wireless technologies. As editor-in-chief, Dan oversees editorial direction, reports on news from the wireless industry, including telecom software, policy and wireless carriers, and provides opinion stories on topics of concern to the market such as his popular Friday column “Worst of the Week.”
Boris Maysel is an accomplished executive and opinion leader with 15 years’ experience in the field of telecommunication. Boris went all the way in Siklu from the product idea, through its development, mass production, definition and execution of go-to-market strategy, acquiring partners to build profitable and sustainable business and growing the company to become a market leader in its space. Boris serves as Siklu’s Director of Business Development. In his role, he is responsible for bringing to life company’s 5G vision, enabling strategic partnerships and managing key accounts.
Farooq Khan is currently CEO of PHAZR, a 5G Millimeter wave radio network solutions provider. Previously, he was the President and Head of Samsung Research America, Samsung’s US-based R&D unit, where he led high impact collaborative research programs in mobile technology. He holds over 200 U.S. patents, has written 50 research articles and a best-selling book, and presented over 100 speeches at professional forums worldwide.
Berge Ayvazian joined Wireless 20/20 as a Senior Analyst in 2009, following more than 20 years as a senior telecom industry analyst and strategy consultant with Yankee Group, where he served as CEO and co-chairman of the 4G World and Mobile Internet World conference programs.
Ayvazian has conducted extensive research on 5G technology, spectrum, IoT and fixed wireless access. He is working with several operators on their 4G BWA initiatives and 5G FWA trials. He has also extensive experience working with cities on Smart City initiatives, municipal broadband, public Wi-Fi, and public-private partnerships.
At Wireless 20/20, he leads an integrated practice to help mobile and wireless broadband operators and their vendors to develop their 4G/5G technology roadmaps and build a complete business case leveraging the Wireless 20/20 WiROI™ Business Case Analysis Tools. He has used these tools to develop operator 4G network business cases, and address the most challenging modeling problems associated with fixed wireless networks, Wi-Fi Offload, Small Cell deployments and 4G networks to serve venues such as stadiums, airports and train stations.
Ayvazian also spent five years with UBM as a Senior Analyst/Consultant for Heavy Reading conducting 4G Network and Mobile Internet research on the convergence of broadband and mobility and the evolving business strategies of mobile service providers and their technology vendors. Ayvazian chaired 4G World conferences in the US and India and he continues to serve as the Program Director and Conference Chair of UBM’s Tower & Small Cell Summit.
