The Japanese IoT firm currently has nearly 5,000 customers globally
Japanese company Soracom, a provider of cloud-based communication platforms for the internet of things (IoT), has recently launched its IoT platform and global connectivity services in Europe.
“Soracom aims to use its platform to contribute to the overall growth of the IoT industry,” Soracom’s CEO Ken Tamagawa, said. “Current IoT connectivity providers do not really offer secure and swift delivery of services that are affordable and available for everyone in a democratized way. Connecting devices to the internet or the cloud is the easy part. Securing devices and data is the most critical. If it’s on the public internet, it’s hackable. Our customers connect their devices directly to the cloud, using a private network provided by Soracom instead of public internet,” the executive added.
Soracom has a global customer base of nearly 5,000 clients including Canon, Konica Minolta, Safecast, Komatsu, Omniflow, and Enerbrain.
“We can provide low start-up costs, no binding contracts and a flexible pay-as-you-go model for everyone, from garage-level prototyping to massive industrial deployments. Many are building Internet of Things, but that is not enough. We need a sustainable Internet of Things,” the company’s Chief Commercial Officer Parag Mittal, said.
“A smart meter that consumes lot of power for heavy onboard encryption and data transmission to the cloud is not that smart after all. We offer technology to build a sustainable connected world, by reducing power consumption of IoT devices up to 25% and data consumption up to 80%.”
Headquartered in Tokyo, Soracom also has offices in Singapore, Copenhagen and Palo Alto.
Ingenu announces rollout of Machine Network across the Middle East with MEC Telematik
In other IoT news, U.S. firm Ingenu and MEC Telematik, a provider of professional and consulting services to the information and communications technology industry, announced the rollout of the Machine Network for IoT network connectivity across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, based on RPMA technology.
The M2M/IoT network will serve the countries of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan and others. It will provide connectivity for applications such as asset tracking, logistics, environmental monitoring and smart city, among others. MEC Telematik will fund and undertake the build-out of the network which will be largely completed by the end of 2017.
“The expansion of Ingenu’s Machine Network to the Middle East provides robust, reliable coverage to support the growing IoT technology development taking place in the region,” said John Horn, CEO, Ingenu.
