U.K. mobile operator EE and Huawei said they reached mobile broadband speeds of 2.1 gigabits per second over an LTE-Advanced network in a recent lab test.
“We are committed to innovating and to be pushing the mobile industry forward by delivering ground breaking mobile speeds and exceptional mobile experience for our customers,” said Fotis Karonis, managing director of IT and mobile at BT and EE. “That’s the focus of our ongoing partnership with Huawei. We are working together to introduce gigabit class networks to the U.K.’s cities, at the same time our rollout of 4G continues into the most rural parts of the country for ubiquitous high speed mobile broadband in the U.K.”
Huawei also confirmed EE will be one of a number of operators to deliver “TechCity 2.0,” a concept aimed at helping operators accelerate deployment of new mobile networks. The program is designed as a trial for end-to-end verification on business models of new technologies and services, and has been rolled out in more than 20 cities globally. The platform is said to include video optimization and a specific video experience measurement score referred to as “vMOS,” along with enterprise and public safety applications of push-to-talk capabilities over LTE.
IBM launches four new cloud data centers in the U.K.
IBM recently added four new cloud data centers infused with cognitive intelligence in the U.K. The new facilities expand IBM’s cloud data center footprint from two to six in the U.K. and 16 across Europe as part of IBM’s network of more than 50 data centers worldwide.
With these new data centers, clients are said to have access to a portfolio of IBM cloud services for running mission critical enterprise workloads and innovations through more than 150 digital services, which are available via IBM’s development platform Bluemix, and include IBM’s cognitive intelligence technology Watson.
