Cellular signal boosters help solve in-building wireless challenges (content provided by WilsonPro and RCR)

From enterprise connectivity to industrial support, learn how WilsonPro is bringing LTE inside

Current capital investment from carriers as well as real estate developers and venue owners, reflects the importance of providing robust in-building wireless connectivity. Research shows the majority of mobile data use comes from inside buildings, yet these same spaces oftentimes receive weak, inconsistent and sometimes no cellular coverage.

In a high-end residential condo, real estate agents will check for service before deciding whether to even show a unit to clients. In the business world, the same scenario applies- lease deals are being lost if clients determine signals are poor. a lack of cellular coverage can equate to missing an important sales call, throwing off schedules and impacting the bottom line.

There are a number of potential solutions, but distributed antenna systems and small cells require a number of carrier equipment and integration partners, not to mention the high initial investment, recurring maintenance and upgrade costs. To fill this niche WilsonPro has developed a portfolio of easy-to-use cellular signal boosters that work with all the major domestic carriers—Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile US and US Cellular—and provide the level of in-building connectivity consumers expect and businesses require.

RCR Wireless News caught up with Curt Burkhart, Director of Enterprise Sales for WilsonPro, at the recent CTIA Super Mobility exhibition in Las Vegas, Nevada, to discuss the innovative products the company has developed to address the in-building wireless space.

Burkhart specifically mentioned the WilsonPro 70 Plus Select and the 4000R. “These two products are very innovative. They utilize XDR technology, which is extended dynamic range. We were able to squeeze an addition 10 dB or so of gain on the downlink and another couple two dB or three dB gain on the uplink. This XDR allows for our amplifiers to continue working in very strong outside signal environments, well after competitive products shut down. To date….To date, no other signal booster manufacturer can do that.”

The WilsonPro 70 Plus Select works across five cellular bands and has adjustable uplink and downlink gain controls. The select will cover zones of up to 35k square-feet and is ideal for buildings in the 25-200k square-feet range.

“The 4000R is unique,” Burkhart said,” because it is the first in the newer generation of FCC-approved products. It combines essentially four boards from the Pro 70 Plus Select series into one unit. It’s capable of covering in the neighborhood of 100,000-square-feet to 135,000-square-feet depending on available outside signal.”

Available currently as a rack-mounted unit with a wall-mounted unit in the works, the 4000R supports 3G and 4G signals with four built-in amplifiers and four internal antennas. The standard rack-mounted design means the new hardware can be easily installed in existing server racks. Built-in software independently controls each antenna path automatically to ensure optimal coverage.

“We’re very excited about this new product and how it can be used to address in-building wireless challenges,” Burkhart said. “Our goal with this is to make the whole process more versatile and more effective for a wide-range of deployment scenarios.”
