A lot of vendors throw around the projection that by 2020 there will be some 50 billion “things” comprising the growing internet of things (IoT). But what about today; which countries are leading the way in deploying IoT sensors, devices and solutions?
According to new research from IoT Daily, “The countries with the highest machine-to-machine penetration rates are highly industrialized, advanced economies, including the northern European countries of Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark.”
To arrive at a top 20 list, number of m2m subscriptions per 100 mobile subscriptions were compared. In ascending order, the top 20 countries for internet of things adoption are:

- Belgium
- Bulgaria
- Estonia

- Spain
- Luxembourg
- South Africa

Enterprises operating in all manner of industries are using IoT solutions–and the near real-time data produced–to drive efficiency and, in turn, revenue. In fact, based on a new global survey conducted by Vodafone Group, 37% of the businesses surveyed that have adopted the IoT say they now “run their entire business on IoT.”
