Connected car solutions said ti allow drivers access to real-time information about traffic, navigation and emergency services
Japanese telecom operator KDDI in boosting its IoT portfolio selected digital security solutions provider Gemalto to supply its LinqUs On-Demand Connectivity subscription management solution and embedded SIMs.
Gemalto said the solution is designed to secure connectivity for connected cars and “internet of things” applications. KDDI said the deal will enable it to provision any requested operator’s profile on connected cars equipped with pre-embedded ESIM, allowing automakers and solution providers to offer remote subscription over the air throughout the lifecycle of the car. The solution is also said to allow drivers to have access to real-time information about traffic and nearby amenities, navigation, vehicle diagnostics and emergency services.
Gemalto’s solution is based on global GSMA specifications and is integrated into several IoT connectivity platforms.

KDDI counts 40 million mobile subscribers in Japan, and provides a portfolio of services including managed networks, data centers, cloud, security and system integration.
Last year, Gemalto and China Telecom announced the development of a proof-of-concept for connected cars using Gemalto’s LinqUs On-Demand Connectivity subscription management solution. The two companies presented a demo at the Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2015 to show how remote OTA provisioning can enable secure connectivity on mobile devices. The next phase of the partnership is to integrate Gemalto’s solution on vehicles.
