The initiative is part of a strategy to make Dubai a smart city
Huawei signed a memorandum of understanding with Dubai to collaborate on a long-term initiative for the implementation of public safety technology as part of the larger smart city project ongoing in Dubai. Under the terms of the agreement, Huawei and Dubai Police will work together to identify how Huawei solutions can be deployed to aid in crime prevention and reduction as well as improve road safety by reducing incidents of accidents and fatalities.
Huawei’s portfolio of public safety solutions for the government sector include high-definition video surveillance, broadband trunking, multimedia dispatching and intelligent analytics. These solutions are split across six main solution offerings: Convergent Command Center, Cloud-Based Intelligent Video Surveillance, Smart Road Safety, 4G Mission-Critical Broadband Trunking, Agile Communication Network and Secured Cloud Data Center solution.
“Huawei’s Cloud-based Intelligent Surveillance Solution works like the ‘eyes and ears’ of any safe city deployment, providing 24/7 high-definition surveillance and recording with smart features like video summary, intelligent search and facial recognition, making it easy to find critical information quickly through vast amounts of video,” said Fan Si Yong, enterprise global VP at Huawei.
Huawei said its Smart Road Safety Solution is capable of automatic number plate recognition and can track a vehicle across a city through video surveillance. The solution can also generate multiple reports about traffic status in the city. Huawei claims its Safe City solutions have been deployed in more than 100 cities across 30 countries.
Telefónica Business Global signs deal with Automatic Labs
In related news, Telefónica’s Business Solutions unit signed a multiyear agreement with San Francisco-based connected car company Automatic Labs.
Under terms of the deal, Telefónica Business Solutions will provide Automatic Labs with its “Internet of Things” services and solutions, including Telefónica’s Global SIM service, a single platform for the provisioning and management of all global SIMs. The Spanish firm will also offer a Global Service Management solution using a single point of contact, and support the hardware selection and design of the communications model that best fits the service needs within different networks around the world.
