Jerry Gallegos joins Sprint amid major cost-cutting, network improvement plans
As part of ongoing decentralization, Sprint has hired longtime former Cox Communications sales executive Jerry Gallegos as the new president of the West Area based in Phoenix, Arizona.
According to the company, Gallegos will be responsible for sales strategy, network oversight, customer service, marketing and operations; he’s a direct report toCEO Marcelo Claure.
The West geographic area covers Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, western Texas and Wyoming. It encompasses nearly 1,170 branded retail stores.
Sprint divided the country into four geographic areas to “devote resources to 18 top regions,” which in the West Area include Denver, Los Angeles, Seattle and San Francisco. Gallegos “will develop market-specific offerings that serve the needs of consumer and business customers in the West,” the company said.
Gallegos was formerly the vice president of field sales for the West at Cox Communications; he has previously worked in leadership roles at Alltel Wireless, Western Wireless, AT&T, Verizon Wireless and General Mills.
Claure said: “Jerry brings a wealth of wireless industry and sales experience to Sprint, as well as a deep understanding of consumer trends and preferences in the West geographic area. We’re pleased with the results of our localization efforts so far, and I’m confident that Jerry has what it takes to build on our momentum in the West.”
Gallegos emphasized his role as customer-facing: “Sprint’s regional structure is about listening to consumers and delivering a best-in-class wireless experience. We have an incredible opportunity to expand the company’s footprint in the West area, and I’m excited to lead these efforts.”
