Swisscom migrates to NetCracker’s Service Fulfillment platform
Telecom vendor NEC and its subsidiary NetCracker said they had recently helped telecom operator Swisscom complete the build out of ICT capabilities designed to help the carrier migrate its fixed, mobile, TV and broadband services to NetCracker’s Service Fulfillment platform. The vendors said the move would allow Swisscom to tap into the platform’s provisioning capabilities and speed the time-to-market for new services.
As part of the deployment, NEC and NetCracker said they were discussing with Swisscom plans to migrate the telecom operator’s operating support systems platform to a “hybrid virtual-physical model” through a collaboration on setting up future migration plans to a cloud-based architecture. This collaboration is also expected to work through integration of management and orchestration of automated hybrid service environments, and network analysis and visualization capabilities.
“Our focus for the future is on developing the cloud-based services and applications that will drive the next phase of our growth,” said Heinz Herren, CTO and CIO at Swisscom, in a statement.
NEC and NetCracker earlier this year announced work with Telekom Austria Group on a trial of their virtual customer-premise equipment solution, which included the V-CPE, software-defined networking controller, service and network orchestration and virtual network functions from multiple vendors.
More recently América Móvil selected NEC and NetCracker as providers for a consolidated, end-to-end OSS solution for its Latin American operations, which includes Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
