Telco cloud focus of Tech Mahindra joint venture

SDN and NFV service-provider solutions

Having announced a joint venture with Avion Systems, India-based digital transformation firm Tech Mahindra is looking to help telecom service providers move onto telco cloud-computing platforms and take advantage of network function virtualization and software-defined network solutions.

Tech Mahindra is a minority stakeholder in the Avian Networks joint venture.

Manish Vyas, president of Tech Mahindra’s communications group, explained to RCR Wireless News the service provider offerings Avion Networks will enable.

“Essentially we are looking at doing design of networks,” Vyas said. “We’re looking at doing the radio engineering and planning; we’re looking to do a lot of optimization of the network assets, particularly in the wireless domain. And then we’re looking to also do the management of the network.”

Telco cloud will reduce cycle time

From a service provider and customer perspective, Vyas said benefits of a cloud transition would include helping to “reduce the cycle time from roll-out and go live of different network assets. It will help integrate the entire value chain from design to deployment. It also means it will improve the quality of the network and enhance the performance of the network and customer experience.”

Vyas said the joint venture makes Tech Mahindra a “very strong, formidable player and a viable option as the service providers look to expedite their rollouts, their management of their network and the overall quality and customer experience.”

“We believe that we have expanded manyfold the overall addressable market for Tech Mahindra.”

Tech Mahindra is a $3.4 billion company comprising more than 95,000 employees in 51 countries. The company provides services including enterprise network architecture, software development, security, infrastructure management and product management.
