Carrier aggregation helps Nokia Networks, Ooredoo Qatar, China Mobile achieve 4.1 Gbps speed
China Mobile and Nokia Networks, along with Ooredoo Qatar have announced a new LTE-A speed record with carrier aggregation. The three companies said they reached 4.1 Gbps per second over the hybrid TD-FDD LTE network. The companies got to that speed by aggregating 10 carriers.
The speeds allow users to download a full-length 5 GB HD movie in 11 seconds, while uploading 30MB video in less than a second. The previous record was set in June by Nokia Networks and SK Telecom.
SK Telecom develops world’s first global standard IoT platform
SK Telecom announced that it has developed the first open-source oneM2M-based “Internet of Things” platform. OneM2M was developed in 2012 and is the largest standardization body for machine-to-machine communication. The newly developed platform supports not only M2M terminals in B2B fields but also IoT devices in B2C areas like wearable devices or smart accessories. SK Telecom plans to finalize the project during the first quarter of 2015.
Spectrum showdown solution may be in works
The Economic Times reports that the Telecom Commission will likely consider allowing an extension on spectrum by Vodafone and Bharti Airtel today. The spectrum licenses in Delhi expired Nov. 29, 2014. The two carriers have continued use citing the disruption to more than 20 million users.
Kordia jumps into the cloud with ExpressRoute service
New Zealand-based telecommunications provider Kordia announced it is the first Australian telco to connect with, and provide, a private access service to Microsoft’s Azure platform via ExpressRoute. ExpressRoute service enables private connections between Azure data centers and infrastructure on client premises, or in a co-location environment. Kordia worked closely with Equinix to enable the Azure connection via the Equinix Cloud Exchange.
Kordia CTO Aaron Olphert said the new service will provide both better speeds and security for users.
