IoT, the “Internet of Things” is changing the way we consume technology, from wearables and connected cars to smart cities.
With 50 billion connected devices expected to be in service by 2020, large signal-processing technology companies such as Texas Instruments see many challenges and opportunities ahead as the IoT revolution takes foot.
In a presentation at the Texas Wireless Summit, Xiaolin Lu, R&D manager at Texas Instruments, spoke about how the company is addressing the problems that come with an increasingly connected world and the opportunity that she sees for the company in the IoT area.
According to Xiaolin, TI has all the IoT building blocks needed to get from nodes to the bridge to the cloud; however, she said she sees multiple challenges including sensing a complex environment, multiple connectivity options such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, power, security, and data analytics in the cloud.
She believes that IoT success comes from blending software, systems and silicon.
The Texas Wireless Summit is an annual showcase highlighting the latest in wireless technology and infrastructure allowing graduate students to present original work.
