CCA: Auction, roaming, USF reform remain priority for CCA

LAS VEGAS — Following up on a conversation he had earlier in the day with Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler, Competitive Carriers Association CEO and President Steve Berry talked with RCR Wireless News about how he felt Wheeler’s comments addressed concerns from CCA and its members.

Berry acknowledged that Wheeler was in a difficult spot on some of the topics, but that the FCC needed to address a number of issues to ensure the wireless market remains open to rural and regional operators.

One topic that Berry noted could use some work was that of data roaming. CCA was a strong proponent of the initial push for the FCC to adopt a data roaming order that mandates wireless operators offer data roaming similar to what is offered for voice communications.

The data roaming issue gained new steam recently following a T-Mobile US filing asking that the FCC clarify some of the points of the 2011 order as to what was meant by “commercially reasonable” standards.
