David Smith, director of state and local government for Citrix, spoke with RCR’s Kelly Hill about the recent Mobile Work Exchange report commissioned by the company examining trends in government mobility readiness.
Mobile Work Exchange is a public-private partnership that focuses on mobility in the government workforce, and its State and Local Mobility Map report included findings that 40% of state and local employees use mobile devices for work-related tasks, but budget concerns and security concerns are among the limiting factors in use of mobile technologies.
“We’re seeing a growing use of mobility,” Smith said, but later added that “to say that they’re mobile-ready yet is still limited.”
Smith said that mobility is an important factor in disaster preparedness for government agencies, and that having mobile access be routine and familiar — rather than for an exception to the rule — improves an agency’s ability to function in an emergency.
The report found that mobile-ready agencies saw an additional three hours per week of productivity per employee.
