Jeff Edlund, CTO of Hewlett-Packard’s Communications and Media Group, spoke with RCR Wireless News about reconciling the work of standards bodies with the need to be responsive to market demand, particularly in the quickly evolving new world of virtualization.
Network function virtualization is an area of considerable interest this year, but the bodies working on defining NFV standards typically move more slowly than the market.
Edlund told RCR Wireless News that HP takes a three-pronged approach: running ahead of the standard in its technology offerings; influencing the standards through participation and submissions to standards bodies such as ETSI; and complying with the standards once they are finalized.
