Network policy control solutions provider Sandvine announced that hosted infrastructure and managed services provider ClearSky Technologies will tap into Sandvine’s virtualized Policy Traffic Switch platform. Let’s just call it “hosted squared.”
The agreement calls for ClearSky to use Sandvine’s products to enable carrier customers to deploy customized services tapping into Sandvine’s Service Creation and Traffic Management software. Orlando, Fla.-based ClearSky notes that it currently provides hosted services to more than 50 wireless carriers across the Americas, including hosted LTE services, traffic and policy management, small cell as a service, multi-generation messaging and mobile Internet access.
Terms of the deal were not released.
“To compete effectively in the marketplace, it is critical that regional operators have access to the same advanced technology as national carriers,” said Dean Fresonke, SVP of business development for ClearSky, in a statement. “We have incorporated Sandvine’s virtual PTS platform into our Total Traffic Manager solution so our operators will have access to the most advanced policy control services in the cloud, with minimal capital expense. Rolling out new services to increase data revenue, and managing the rapid growth in data traffic, just got easier.”
ClearSky last November announced a hosted LTE agreement with Nebraska-based rural operator Great Plains Communications. Great Plains is set to offer LTE services to Custer County, Neb., by mid-year.
Sandvine announced a partnership last year with Openwave Mobility to integrate Sandvine’s policy traffic switch with Openwave’s Integra4 value-added software in a move designed to enable service providers to optimize video delivery and engage subscribers with real-time offers.
“While other network policy control vendors are talking about providing virtualized solutions, Sandvine can help forward-thinking network operators deploy virtualized solutions today,” said Don Bowman, CTO at Sandvine connected with the ClearSky deal. “In October 2013, Sandvine was the first company to publicly demonstrate a fully virtualized network policy control solution and ClearSky’s new offering demonstrates that we will continue to be at the forefront of the coming network functions virtualization revolution.”
