Device review: Smart Devices projector tablet

by Martha DeGrasse

If you often find a group of friends or family members huddled around your tablet, you may have considered a projector tablet as an alternative for screening movies and slide shows. The concept also has obvious applications in a business or classroom environment, but so far only a few manufacturers have tested these waters. One is China’s Smart Devices, which launched two projector tablets this year, the SmartQ U7, and the SmartQ U7H.

The SmartQ U7 is a lightweight, 7-inch tablet that could easily be mistaken for the Nexus 7 from a distance. The display smudges easily, and the audio can be weak without an external speaker, but reviewers are finding the tablet to be a true two-in-one device. Parents willing to buy a high-end tablet for their teenagers will want to look at the SmartQ 7, because it allows the user to watch videos with others and to present classroom presentations.
