HetNet News: DAS in MLB stadiums; Aruba expands distribution

DAS provider TE Connectivity announced some of its recent Major League Baseball stadium installations to improve 3G and “4G” coverage. TE’s InterReach Spectrum, InterReach Fusion and FlexWave Prism DAS products have been recently deployed at stadiums including Yankee Stadium; Citifield, home of the New York Mets; Target Field, where the Minnesota Twins play; and The Ballpark at Arlington, home of the Texas Rangers.

“Baseball fans expect a first-class experience when attending games, and part of that is being able to use their mobile wherever they are in the stadium whether they’re monitoring other league news, sharing updates with friends, or voting on the player of the game,” said Joseph Mullin, SVP of DAS engineering at InSite Wireless Group, which is the neutral host operator that deployed the TE Connectivity DAS that serves major mobile operators at Target Field in Minneapolis.

TE said its DAS systems are deployed at more than 50 baseball, football and soccer stadiums around the world

“As we gear up for the playoff season, fans expect quality mobile services inside of stadiums,” said Peter Wraight, VP and GM of wireless at TE Connectivity. “Our DAS products are an important part of making that happen for major mobile operators.”

Aruba Networks has partnered with Ingram Micro to extend its distribution. Ingram Micro’s Advanced Technology Division will market, sell and support Aruba’s entire portfolio of wireless and wired access solutions, including its new cloud Wi-Fi product, to channel partners in the United States.

“Ingram Micro brings Aruba an expanded footprint of resellers and new opportunities that will help us reach the kinds of customers that are ideal for our entire portfolio of products, and target key growth areas like cloud-managed Wi-Fi,” said Jim Harold, VP of channel for Aruba Networks. “This new relationship with Ingram Micro is strategic to our growth as a company, because it gives us access to a channel that is primed for the solutions we offer and excited to add the value Aruba brings to their networking practices.”

Eric Kohl, senior director of the division which will be selling Aruba’s products, said that Ingram Micro is “seeing an increasing demand for an enterprise-grade, cloud-managed Wi-Fi solution within our channel partner community. Aruba’s new Cloud Wi-Fi offers the simplicity and scalability that our partners and their customers are looking for, and is a great addition to our growing portfolio of best-in-class networking solutions.”

–Charter aircraft operator Travel Management Company said it has completed and activated ATG 2000 systems providing Gogo‘s in-flight Internet service, and its entire fleet now has Gogo Biz Wi-Fi service. The company’s 30 Hawker 800/850XP aircraft already had Gogo Wi-Fi service; now the company has expanded that to its fleet of 37 Hawker 400Xp aircraft.

“The popularity of Wi-Fi on our fleet of Hawker 800/850XP’s convinced us that adding Gogo Biz to the fleet of Hawker 400XP’s was the right approach to maintain consistency across our entire fleet. Now every flight on a TMC jet aircraft will include complimentary Wi-Fi service,” said Scott Wise, TMC’s president.
