HetNet News: Aruba boosts revenue; new LTE DAS antenna from Galtronics

Aruba Networks recorded revenue of $153.1 million during the quarter ended July 31, a substantial boost from the $139.2 million during the same period last year.

“We exceeded our fourth quarter revenue expectations and added a record number of new customers,” said Dominic Orr, Aruba’s president and CEO. “This performance was driven by strong execution, improvements across most of our geographical theaters and increased demand in our core verticals globally.”

The company’s revenue for the fiscal year was up 16% to $600 million. Net loss for the year was $32.3 million, up from $8.9 million in fiscal 2012. Aruba recently launched its flagship 802.11ac solution, the Aruba 220 Series access points for the newest Wi-Fi standard.

–Distributed antenna system provider Galtronics launched a new multiple-input-multiple-output antenna for LTE indoor and outdoor environments. The Pear M5277i is a dual-polarized antenna that supports MIMO in the 698-960 MHz and 1710-2700 MHz bands for DAS.

Galtronics noted that with MIMO, its Pear in-building DAS installations require only one antenna to be installed, instead of two antennas that are spatially separated.

The rectangular white box – registering at 10.1-inches tall, 7.9-inches wide and 2.5-inches deep – is designed to appeal to retail centers and hotels that put an emphasis on aesthetics. The antenna also has a weatherized housing and can be used outdoors in parking garages, entrance and exit areas, and large venues.

Boingo Wireless signed an agreement with Forest City Ratnet Companies to provide Wi-Fi coverage at the Atlantic Terminal Mall in Brooklyn that will be free to shoppers. Boingo will operate and manage the centralized Wi-Fi network for the transportation and shopping hub. It is scheduled to be available this fall.

The Atlantic Terminal Mall serves more than 40 million shoppers and commuters annually, including New York Subway and Long Island Rail Road passengers.

Boingo noted that it has agreements with half a dozen other shopping center operators in the United States, where it provides Wi-Fi at more than 40 locations serving more than 300 million consumers each year. Those partnerships include Westfield, Caruso Affiliated, Glimcher Realty Trust, Cafaro and Urban Retail.
