Worldwide, MVNO launches peaked in 2006 across the United States, Canada and Europe. However, current growth is coming from emerging countries. And across Latin America, conditions such as high mobile penetration, a predominately prepaid customer base and a high churn rate are promoting competition.
Although the MVNO field has been dominated by existing telecom operators, there are new players emerging, such as Virgin Mobile, Porto Seguro, Tuyo, Uff Móvil and FullMóvil. Currently, the region has an estimated 20 MVNOs.
