Brazil’s Oi boosts network capacity to meet New Year’s Eve demand

Brazilian carrier Oi said it has improved its network capacity to meet the growth in voice and data mobile traffic during New Year’s Eve celebrations. Oi has turned over 15 radio base stations and improved the capacity of the current stations.

At Copacabana beach, located in Rio de Janeiro, where an estimated 2 million people will gather for New Year’s Eve, Oi has strengthened mobile phone coverage by installing four cells on wheels on different parts of the coast.

Across the country, strengthening the network will be done in coastline locations that attract crowds of tourists for New Year celebrations.

In São Paulo state, Oi increased its mobile network’s traffic capacity among some of the capital’s gathering places, such as Paulista Avenue, Vale do Anhangabaú and Ibirapuera Park, and on stations that cater to the coastal beaches.

In Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais state), mobile coverage will be strengthened at the party spots of Pampulha Lagoon and Station Square. Oi said it has made improvements in Farol da Barra in Salvador’s Bahia.
