Dell plans transition from PC to end-point solutions company

Dell on Thursday announced continued customer and partner momentum for its enterprise and end-point solutions, as well as a broad array of new products and services designed to help customers unlock innovation.

A confident Dell chairman and CEO Michael Dell, speaking during a keynote address at the Dell World user conference in Austin, explained to the fellow industry luminaries and thought leaders how the company is transforming itself into a one-stop shop with servers, storage and networking, as well as a services business solutions. Dell said that the company has changed a lot in the last five to ten years but its strategy of customer focus is as strong as ever. He also said that the universe of products offered by Dell has increased.

“This is an end-to-end solution. The client device is a huge part of the solution for customers. But they also want the server part, the storage part, networking, security, services. It’s all part of the complete solution,” Dell said.

“We’re more than just hardware. Our customers are not looking to deploy servers. Hospitals don’t want shiny boxes, they want better outcomes for patients. They want to make patient data more accessible. They want to invent a drug.”

Companies now are facing new and unique challenges and unprecedented opportunities in a virtual era, which has accelerated the move to dynamic data center environments and cloud computing architectures.

Dell is one of the only companies in the world that can help customers navigate this broad range of IT needs – from the end-point to the data center – and deliver the right solutions to meet businesses’ IT requirements today and with confidence for the future, Dell said.

“Earlier this year we announced a $1 billion investment in technology solutions, extending the company’s global reach into data center, mobile and cloud environments,” said Dell. “Now more than ever, these investments are delivering value to customers who demand an end-to-end solutions provider to unlock innovation across their organizations. We’re committed to continuing to listen to our customers and deliver flexible solutions that truly address the problems they are trying to solve each day,” he added.

Dell said that the company would invest substantially in its cloud computing infrastructure that would serve customers and realize the benefits of deploying private, public or hybrid cloud environments.

The Dell CEO also confirmed that the company would align with Windows 8 for the success of its tablet. While arguing that the Android slate market has not developed as predicted, Dell stated that they are closely aligned with Microsoft’s Windows 8.

While declaring that the company has no plans to give up its PC business, Dell reaffirmed his commitment to using the chips based on the x86 architecture developed by Intel and AMD.

While highlighting the company’s recent acquisitions, — Kace, Boomi, and SecureWorks — Dell stressed how they have enhanced the company’s ability to provide complete solutions to its customers.

Dell also gave the audience some info on its 12th generation of PowerEdge servers. He said the servers, due to come next year, will utilize x86 technology and can connect upto 1204 cores, more than 40 terabytes of DRAM, 40 terabytes of flash memory, which will lead to running of database queries up to 60 times faster than its current servers.
