Contracts: Zain chooses Alcatel-Lucent; Durham University appoints Siemens; and more

Siemens Enterprise Communications, a premier provider of enterprise communications, has been appointed by Durham University as its strategic technology partner to implement a next generation communications system as part of a university-wide investment program to deliver world-class facilities for its 15,000 students and 3,000 staff.

Alcatel-Lucent announced that Zain Saudi Arabia (Zain KSA), mobile operator in Saudi Arabia, has selected Alcatel-Lucent’s IP/MPLS-based mobile backhaul solution to respond to the sharp increase in bandwidth requirements. Zain KSA has selected Alcatel-Lucent to provide comprehensive turnkey network-related services, including consulting, design, software integration, installation and commissioning, within the frame of this contract.

Cellular South is continuing a $90 million network expansion as it readies plans to introduce 4G LTE (Fourth Generation Long Term Evolution) high-speed mobile broadband services.As part of the network upgrades and expansion, Cellular South has standardized all of its packet-based network services for wireless Ethernet backhaul and advanced IP services in Mississippi with Alcatel-Lucent.

Ericsson announced that it has signed a four-year agreement as the sole vendor for EastLink’s core and radio access networks, using HSPA+ and next generation technologies. Ericsson will deploy its multi-standard radio base station as well as provide professional services.

ZTE Corporation announced that the company had signed a power supply equipment contract with Reggefiber, constructor and operator of fiber networks in the Netherlands. Under the contract, ZTE will supply uninterruptible power supply (UPS) solutions for Reggefiber’s points of presence (POP) sites in the next four years.

Cisco announced that Charter Communications, communications and entertainment services provider and the fourth-largest cable operator in the United States,is deploying the Cisco CRS-3 Carrier Routing System and Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers to deliver enhanced video, data, voice and mobile backhaul services to residential and commercial customers.
