Cisco Systems Inc.’s (CSCO) WebEx is offering a cheaper package for its online meetings service. WebEx 8, which allows for one host and up to seven guests, is now available for $19 a month in the United States. The larger package at $49 a month allows for up to 25 participants.
“People want a tool like this, a business ready, business quality tool,” Deborah Holstein, senior director for WebEx Online, told RCR Wireless News. “It’s the whole thing, just a smaller meeting room at a correspondingly lower price.”
Holstein said the company saw a growing number of requests from entrepreneurs and startups that didn’t necessarily need to bring a large group of people together for online meetings. While many companies choose to try out the free alternatives, they don’t carry the same feature set that many businesses enjoy on WebEx, Holstein said.
Many of those customers will convert to WebEx “when they want a professional conversation, a business ready one,” she said.
More than 23 million people attend a WebEx meeting every month and more than a million app downloads have been served across all the devices it supports.
