Motorola Solutions floods public safety market with new products, services

PHILADELPHIA — Motorola Solutions Inc.’s (MSI) presence here at the APCO International Annual Conference and Expo is among the largest on hand and considering the amount of news it has shared this week, it’s easy to see why. The company, which recently spelled out its plans to expand its portfolio of services and applications, rolled out a series of announcements here this week aimed at the public safety market.
Budding from its six-month-old alliance with Verizon Wireless (VZ) on LTE technology for public safety, Motorola and Verizon are demonstrating interoperability across private LTE to public LTE, a feat that it claims to be a first of its kind. The alliance between the two companies is aimed at enabling first responders to maintain interoperable connectivity on Motorola Solutions’ public safety LTE network and Verizon Wireless 3G and 4G networks.
The two companies are demonstrating full connectivity between public safety’s Band 14 LTE spectrum and Verizon Wireless’ Band 13 LTE commercial spectrum.
Elsewhere on the LTE front, Motorola Solutions announced the VML700 LTE Vehicle Modem and the UM1000 LTE USB Modem. The firm also announced its Public Safety LTE Cloud Core service, which enables law enforcement agencies to manage their communications infrastructure and services backend without investing in a server of their own.
In other news, the public safety communications giant began shipping its ASTRO 25 systems with P25 TDMA trunking, which effectively doubles the voice capacity of frequency division multiple access (FDMA) technology and makes for more efficient use of spectrum. With dynamic dual mode between P25 FDMA and P25 TDMA, calls are automatically allocating based on available resources at the time.
Finally, Motorola Solutions is launching the APX XE Remote Speaker Microphone to bring a dual-microphone design with noise cancellation to first responders working in loud environments and situations where their portable radio might not be easily accessible.
