NAVTEQ Traffic™ Launches RDS Real-Time Traffic Services Across Russia via Autoradio

NAVTEQ | July 25, 2011 | Press Release

Moscow – XX July 2011 – NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising around the world, has signed an agreement with the Russian network radio station Autoradio (Prof Media Broadcasting Corporation), the leader of Moscow FM-broadcasting, to facilitate real-time traffic information distribution via Radio Data System (RDS), enabling broadcast delivery of NAVTEQ Traffic across Russia. RDS is one of a variety of distribution formats NAVTEQ makes available to customers to suit their product needs; NAVTEQ’s traffic information is already available to connected devices in Russia via NAVTEQ Traffic Pro® since December 2010.

Autoradio will distribute NAVTEQ Traffic services via RDS to nine major Russian markets, including Kazan, Krasnodar, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg. Broadcast traffic reports will debut first in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg, with a phased roll-out in other cities to follow.

NAVTEQ is the world’s #1 traffic source, helping more people in more countries worldwide save time, money, and fuel than any other traffic provider.

Research shows that Russian consumers want exactly the type of information provided by NAVTEQ Traffic. According to a recent Frost & Sullivan report, 93% of Russian consumers say they want access to real-time traffic information.*  Proprietary NAVTEQ research also shows with regular use, drivers with traffic-enabled navigation in this region could spend 18 percent less time driving on average than those without navigation–enabling Russian drivers to potentially spend four days less on the road each year.**

NAVTEQ Traffic provides highly-accurate up-to-the minute traffic information to in-vehicle navigation systems, personal navigation devices and cell phones to enable drivers to save time, fuel and frustration. NAVTEQ aggregates and analyzes traffic data from a vast wealth of sources, including the world’s largest compilation of both commercial and consumer probe data, the world’s largest fixed proprietary sensor network, event-based data collected from government sources, and billions of historical traffic records.

“Our goal is to make real-time traffic information available to as many drivers as possible,” said Howard Hayes, senior vice president for NAVTEQ Traffic. ”The agreement with Autoradio greatly expands upon our mission to expand our traffic coverage across Russia.”
