Telmex’s net income and revenue fell in second quarter

Net income for the second quarter at Mexican fixed line incumbent Telefonos de Mexico SAB fell 11.8% from the year-ago period. Telmex’s revenue also dropped 2.9% from the year-ago period to 27.614 billions pesos (US$ 2.357 billions).

From April to June 2011, earnings were 11.074 billion pesos before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA), representing a 2.5% year-on-year decline from 11.355 billion pesos a year earlier.

The carrier ended the quarter with a total of 12.354 million fixed line voice customers, down 1.9% from the previous year. Telmex said that it noticed a decrease in fixed-line penetration, though pointed to its 62.9% share of the market (77.7% if counted public fixed-lines, prepaid and those from Telmex Social). Broadband subscribers at the end of June 2011 totaled 7.7 million, up almost 10% from 6.954 million a year earlier.
