SINGAPORE – Huawei finally unveiled its mysterious MediaPad on Monday, one day before the start of the CommunicAsia telecoms show in Singapore.
The tablet, previously teased in online ads, was revealed to be a 7-inch Android 3.2 Honeycomb, running on Qualcomm’s dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor.
The Chinese device maker said the tablet was its “smartest, slimmest and lightest” to date, measuring just 10.5mm (0.4 inches) deep and weighing approximately 390g (0.86 pounds).
True to its name, the device is geared towards entertainment and consumption, supporting full 1080P HD video playback and HD video recording, along with HDMI output. The tab also sports a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera and 5 megapixel auto focus rear facing camera.
Huawei is boasting speeds of 14.4Mbps on the HSPA+ tab, which also comes with WiFi 802.11n, Flash 10.3 and pre-installed app versions of Facebook, Twitter, Let’s Golf and Documents to Go.
The company claimed in its press release to be the “world’s first 7-inch Android 3.2 Honeycomb tablet,” but ViewSonic was also claiming that about its ViewPad 7 at Computex three weeks ago.
