Capital Markets: Google bets on Admeld; Qualcomm acquires Rapid Bridge; and more

Qualcomm announced it has agreed to acquire substantially all of the assets of Rapid Bridge LLC, a San Diego-based inventor of advanced techniques for the design and development of semiconductor products. Rapid Bridge’s San Diego design team and San Diego/Bangalore engineering services operations will be integrated into Qualcomm CDMA Technologies. The asset acquisition, which is subject to regulatory approval and fulfillment of certain terms and conditions, is expected to close by the end of fiscal year 2011.

Airspan Networks Inc., provider of broadband wireless access networks, and Buggs Island Telephone Cooperative (BIT) announced the selection of Airspan 4G equipment for deployment in southern Virginia, USA. BIT received two grants which will be used for infrastructure to deliver wireless broadband Internet access to residents and businesses in fifteen counties in south central Virginia. The grants include a government Broadband Stimulus award of $18.9 million dollars and a $3.9 million dollar grant from Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission.

Google has signed an agreement to acquire Admeld, a New York-based yield optimization firm to “help major publishers get the most out of the rapidly changing and growing display ad landscape.” The deal is reported to be worth $400 million. Current Admeld customers include Answers.com, FOX News, IDG TechNetwork, Hearst Television, Discovery, The Weather Channel, and more than 500 others worldwide.

Cotendo, cloud-based acceleration technologies, announced the completion of a $17 million private funding round. Contendo states the round will fuel the company’s long-term growth strategy and technology innovation in the delivery of highly-personalized content for mobile and web applications.
