CAT Telecom is moving more aggressively into mobile broadband and cloud computing services this year in a bid to offset declining concessions and international call revenue.
The state telecom enterprise has allocated a budget of 1.2 billion baht to expand revenue streams this year. Of the total, 700 million baht is slated to expand its WiFi hot spots to 80,000 locations nationwide within three years. The rest will be spent on cloud computing services.
Sompol Chanprasert, senior executive vice-president of broadband for CAT Telecom, said the wireless broadband expansion was aimed at increasing the revenue percentage of individual users to reduce the risk of heavy reliance on corporate customers.
“We want to increase individual customers to 100,000 next year, up from 15,000,” he said.
